I think the risk of not doing i.e. not quitting or taking the new job, not moving, not asking someone out, in general not doing, is the greater risk, even if the doing is unsuccessful.

As always, solid, actionable advice. I’d add these items: -It can be of significant value for kids to have some activity that is NOT associated with their school; e.g., Scouts, recreational sports, performing arts, church/synagogue/mosque/temple youth group/religious instruction, community organizations like the Y, etc. That’s because your kids shouldn’t have all of their socialization and learning “eggs” in the one “basket” of school. Kids who don’t “click” in the academic and social environment of their schools often feel like they’re failing. But if they “click” in those other places, they’ll feel like they can succeed. -Allow your kids the time and space to “decompress” after school. It can be a huge challenge for kids to have to “keep it together” during the school day. That extra time and space can mean the difference between peaceful and fractious after school time. -Give your kids something to look forward to at various times during the school year. It’s up to you and your kids what that might be.

I often think about my keyring, a nondescript ring of metal that cost 10 cents. Trustworthy, integral to my daily life. In addition: an electric heated vest to keep warm during winter, a thermal coffee mug in a bright cheerful color, a health tracking watch, my AI chatbot subscriptions, tee shirts that my girlfriend and I have picked up during our travels, a tub of Vaseline for keeping my lips and cuticles moisturized, a box of my favorite pens, dental floss (I'd go crazy without it), pocket sized notebooks with cardboard covers (25 notebooks for $25), and my library card. I think it's a positive thing to give conscious thought to appreciate the possessions that are useful and durable to us...our lifelong march on the Hedonic Treadmill often obscures how much benefit these often inexpensive and ubiquitous items can give us. My laptop(s), Pixel 6a Cell Phone, FitBit Sense Smartwatch, Car, John Deere D140 48" Riding Mower, Free from work Fleece Jacket, 7 Egg Automatic Egg cooker, Gerber Suspension NXT multitool, OIC Clipboard, and a stack of trusty Bic Round Stic Medium black ink pens fit the bill for me day-to-day.

i was not happy about the prices. It was amazing, all of it. Sitting with Africans, Turks, Chinese, Poles, you name it. Taking pics with eachother's phones, being polite and respectful, together. I came in a lukewarm fan, more like skeptic. I'm leaving believing it's one of humankind's best (and very few) ongoing traditions.

My heart breaks for Chicago. It's not a Democrat problem, or a race problem, or an economy problem. It's a parenting epidemic. Every crime was committed by somebody brought into this world by two people who were not equipped to raise contributors instead of criminals. Everything else we fixate on or argue about is signal noise. Is there any part of the city's public service, or local community leaders, or more broadly, pop culture, that can focus on transforming the reproductive/parenting responsibility crisis causing so much chronic, systemic damage?

And here in Illinois we have some of the harshest (& unconstitutional) gUn laws in the country. "Shall NOT be infringed" comes to mind here. IQ has been a taboo subject in America for over 3 decades. It has fallen outside of the overton window. Why? Well, we know why. There are those among us that have IQ's of 75. These people tend to struggle the most, as well as commit the most crime. These actions are attributed to "injustice" and "lack of equity" and of course the granddaddy of them all, "racism". I am a black man myself, i admit my shortcomings. I know that I'm no genius, but i thank God that he gave me enough intelligence to work, make good money, pay my bills, be responsible and not play thr victim.

Great tips, many apply to high school students as well. The sooner you learn to think critically the better, unfortunately many never learn to do so and are disappointed in their education.

I like to be on my own too - I can relax properly on my own (with my cat of course) and, somehow, I feel more free. I do like interacting with others, but in small doses. I guess I am an introvert. It’s good to hear that others like to be alone too.

It's mind-blowing that the Dems can be so tone deaf as to even consider holding their convention in Chicago, a city decimated by violent crime. Is this the city they want to showcase as a gleaming jewel upon the hill cut and polished by the wisdom of Democratic leadership? There's something very sick about this.
